22/02/2017
  • ContiPremiumContact 5 wins highest rating

  • Top marks on wet roads and good on dry asphalt

  • Successor PremiumContact 6 now available from dealers in 70 sizes

In the latest summer tire test run by Autozeitung, the ContiPremiumContact 5 received the top rating of “highly recommended”. The magazine’s experts examined a total of 13 tire characteristics on wet and dry roads. There was special  praise for the good handling characteristics of the ContiPremiumContact 5 on wet roads, where it was best in test. As the editors noted, this tire: “impresses with a very high level of grip and maximum dynamic stability. Perfect response to steering input.” And they particularly liked its precise handling on dry roads. In its overall rating, Autozeitung wrote: “A typical Conti tire: provides extremely high safety margins in the wet. Good performance in dry conditions.” The magazine tested ten tire models in size 215/55 R 17; the test vehicle was a VW Touran 1.4 TSI Blue Motion

Start

The ContiPremiumContact 5, which was introduced back in the spring of 2012, will gradually be replaced by the PremiumContact 6 from this season onward. With its latest summer tire, Continental successfully bridges the gap between a sedan tire with high ride comfort and a tire for sporty models and SUVs. The new PremiumContact 6 combines the highest safety characteristics with excellent comfort and environmental performance, as well as providing a precise steering response. The outcome is a product that delivers an improvement in mileage of up to 15 percent compared to its predecessor and a reduction in rolling resistance of five percent without compromising on safety characteristics. The new model will be manufactured in 70 sizes for rims from 16 to 21 inches to fit passenger cars and SUVs. The premium products from Continental with their top-level safety characteristics make a direct contribution to greater road safety and thus support the leading German tire manufacturer’s long-term target positioning: Vision Zero. The new summer tire was not included in the test by Autozeitung as it was not available in the test size of 215/55 R 17 when the test began.
